PHSSA Friends and Families,

Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts is preparing for a new school year.  By this time in any other year, our Mighty Oaks family would already be a month into our adventures.  Families would hear about their children learning while exploring Forest Hill Park and Reedy Creek.  Old friends would be reconnected and new friends would be made.  Our teachers would be guiding our “little acorns” to discover their world in new and creative ways.

This, however, is not any other year.  Instead of bus stops and carpools, families will be gathered in living rooms and kitchens.  Kids will be comparing avatars and virtual backgrounds instead of found acorns and rain boots.  Despite these challenging times, we at PHSSA are working hard to ensure an exceptional student experience.  We are making every effort to uphold the traditions that make PHSSA special while also maintaining a safe physical environment for every individual.  The PHSSA mission is to use an integrated learning approach based on an arts and environmental science focus.  As we move into this school year, your child’s class size will remain small, crafted to foster equity based on race, gender, academic ability, and special education needs.  Our plans for the new year include fresh and exciting ways to engage our classrooms.   We will continue to nurture positive character traits in a variety of ways.  You will see this not only in your child’s at-home learning kit but also in our virtual “Caught-Ya’s”, to name a few examples!  We also value the strength of an informed family, particularly in these constantly evolving times.  We have great plans for your school, your child’s experience, and your family’s involvement both during the pandemic and beyond.

The challenge is great.  Now, more than ever, we are asking that our PHSSA family rise up together.  We need your help. Your Patrick Henry family is experiencing more financial insecurity due to the current climate. If you believe in our mission and want to grow our tiny acorns into Mighty Oaks, please consider a gift to Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Trevor Worden, a member of the Board of Directors' Advancement Committee, at trevor.worden@patrickhenrycharter.org.

Thank you for your support,

PHSSA Board of Directors
