Patrick Henry Elementary School Alumni

Patrick Henry Alumni Gather at School for Reunion
Nearly 150 people attended a recent Patrick Henry alumni event on June 6th, representing classes from the 1930s through 1985. Friendships were renewed, stories told, memories surfaced.

Here are a few memories of PH, as remembered by the alumni:

1940s
  • Playing in the dirt over the hills — and making race thanks for small cars
  • Wading in the creek at the park (Forest Hill) but ... only after you had brought your PERMISSION SLIP — Good Memories!!
  • Miss Elizabeth Robinson wore Revlon Ultra Violet lipstick & drank Cokes — all day!
  • Paul Brinser and Tommy Davis were captains of our sports team — kickball, baseball, etc. They were jocks!
  • Walking to school in rain, snow, sunny days — (there were no school buses in those days)
  • I remember 3rd grade — Miss Woody — we had to know the multiplication tables perfectly or we couldn't pass to 4th grade — Mary Lou Moss Webber
  • I got in a fist fight with Ducky Rivers behind the school at recess over a marble game. I got the best of him and everybody was calling me the winner. Mrs. Bell grabbed me by the ear and said, "No you're the LOSER!" and brought me to Mrs. Goodwin.
  • I remember the relay races in the open grass field. Anything to get out of class!
1950s
  • Singing "Sweet Irish Rose" with Mary Evelyn Rowsey - Judy Youngblood
1960s
  • Limeades at Ball's Drugstore (across the street)
  • The "Bell" — the most dangerous playground equipment ever — and the most fun.
  • Mr. Sutton — nicest Principal ever and Mrs. Morris — the kindest 3rd grade and much larger halls!
  • Mrs. Leake — 6th grade class — Square dancing in this auditorium — Brenda Turner Cole
  • After school going to the drugstore for grill cheese & candy.
  • How you could hear Mrs. Leake throughout the entire school.
