Finances for PHSSA
Like many charter schools, PHSSA's financial outlook includes private and public funding sources. Additionally, PHSSA is raising money to help finance the $1.45 million renovation to the Patrick Henry Building. Phase 1 and 1A of construction is scheduled to begin in June 2011 and will cost about $400,000. Please look at the information below that was presented to the RPS Board of Directors in January 2011 to view the most recent financial update of PHSSA.
In October 2009, PHSSA was awarded a U.S. Department of Education Charter School Program (CSP) grant for $471,000. This is an extremely competitive grant awarded to start up charters schools on an annual basis. The funding from this grant is allotted to certain start-up expenses.
PHSSA receives approximately $9,800 per student that attends the school. This money is the state and local funding that is allotted to each student. This 'per pupil funding' is used to pay PHSSA staff, cover the costs of meals and transportation and other operational costs.
PHSSA maintains an account of private donations and grant funds. Donations and grants are pursued to supplement the curriculum funding and to raise money to renovate the PH Building.
